Hardy-Weinberg's law of evolution mechanism

Postby victor on Sun May 15, 2005 1:08 pm

Is it still possible to use Hardy-Weinberg law of evolution mechanism? because there're are too many statements that should be fulfilled before you can use their law. one of them is there mustn't any mutation inside a big population. Is it still possible? because according to me that it's impossible that there's no mutation at all inside a big population.... :?

It depends on what you use it for. It is still good for approximating statistics. it also works if you have the info for different phenotypes and you want to factor out the allele frequencies.

Mithrill is right. HOWEVER, remember hw is purely theoretical and it is not true for any population in nature. The simplest proof for this is that it doesn't take into consideration extranuclear genetic material

If you say like that....is there any theories of evolution mechanism that is more reliable that HW theory?
