Talk about INSECTZ or get outta here:)Moderator: BioTeam Ni hao, Bugz!
Oh, yes, I sow this beetle and has in my collection! I was intrested at classification once but eith time it become weeky - I sow that within the clssification there is too many systems is possible and no one is complete - becouse it's depend on features that taken into account. I don't want to say that classification it is fiction - it's no becouse features can not be taken without reasone, but there is huge field for speculation. Molecular systematics is also have quate seriose problems (neutral or not neutral substitutions). There complex approach is needed. And categories like families or genera is deeply subjective - why, for example, drosohpyla is only genera, and bulls is subfamile? I think that only becouse thre is more people that work with systemathy of bulls... Names of species... sometims when I look on the quantety of specicies within some groups (espessialy insects) it seems to me that many of them is not true species P. S. I think to about master degree abroad, but now apart from bakalur degree from Technion I have nothing (and my head of couse... Evolution will arrange everything
Locus I m worried about the master degree too, I can't decide which school I should apply, and I dont know which British school have entomology. Where do you plan to go?
I dont know what you major is in your undergraduate school, but I believe you know much more about insects than me. You're doing well Locus, I'm serious. Winner of the thread 'Last Person to Reply Wins'.
You have Scarabaeus sacer in your collcetion? So lucky you! I hope that I could visit Israel and see the real Scarabaeus sacer.....I saw them only on pictures....
But Beijing has a species which is similar to Scarabaeus sacer, it's called Scarabaeus typhon. They maybe a bit smaller than sacer. Last edited by Bugz on Sat Jan 13, 2007 2:38 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Yes, it seems rather similar to Scarabeos sacer. My be those beetls can to mate?
At the undegraduate studies I was learn almost no entomology, and evolution (one tiny course from each field Now I was almost completly lost hope to do mster on entomology, but not lost to do it on evolution, realy for me now intresting fields like evolution, development and ecology, and different groups (like favorite - insects) intresting for me as far as it is good object, or general part (like at the ecology), or have intresting characteristic (like insect eggs formation). For example - genes like a hox within Arthropoda undergo serieos evolution, and within insects too, or segmentation - is strongly evolved betveen level of thysanura and beetls or hemenoptera. So I prefer do my master work on similar subject. Until now I have find three plases: Edinburg: http://web.bio.ed.ac.uk/research/institutes/evolution/ Crete: http://www.imbb.forth.gr/groups/developmental.html and Kanada: http://www.biology.ualberta.ca/ Crete is seems to me good, but I don't know grees I was seach plases at the Chine to, but I can not open university pages... why??? P. S. Bugz, Beijing = Pekin? (information from google) Evolution will arrange everything
Cool & nice website Locus , you really did a good job...
Sure Beijng=Pekin. But I dont know why you couldn't open our university's pages. Anyway, Which school do you wanna know about in China? Maybe I could help you. Winner of the thread 'Last Person to Reply Wins'.
Hey Bugz nice pic...........
You can try here in India for your masters in Entomology............ here are two scopes.... Agricultural Entomology and medical Entomology.... Else you can also go for plane Entomology and find you way to Wild life Studies.... Hey Locus; Just buy any field guid for entomology and start classifying insects you get... Nature Bangs On My Mind
For example: en.hit.edu.cn/ en.pku.edu.cn/ http://www.shu.edu.cn/en/indexEn.htm http://www.tjut.edu.cn/eng_web/academics/content/3.html life.fudan.edu.cn/english/ And many otheres that I can not find now... So I don't know what learned inside of them??? Only Hong Kong open sachin - wild studies on entomology this is like mapping areals, diversity and others? Evolution will arrange everything
I m in Plain Entomology..... Combined with Biotechnology. Plain entomology is----- General + medical + agricultural Entomology. I m reaserching on moths and Bettles....... I ve started with moths but yet to start beetle studies....... I m waiting for my new camera... Nature Bangs On My Mind
