Neo-LamarckiansIs it true that there a people in the scientific community who are actually considering the Use and Disuse proposal that Lamarck came up with some time ago?
There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one from so simple a beginning.....The Origin of Species
I know that inheritance of acquired characteristics can easily be applied to epigenetic / memetic features, and "getting what you need" seems to be reflected in how mutations occur in stressed bacteria (there's something we don't understand going on there), but for Use and Disuse, there are adaptive processes that sort of reflect the basic concept - such as rear legs in ancestral whales. Is there another example, or a more classic application, being discussed?
