Plaque assay

My lab experiment resulted in no plaques on my plate. What does this mean. My teacher said that it is a negative result but what does that mean??? Also....a question reads " why was it important to use a hard agar with a soft agar overlay instead of vice versa???"

What are the plaques? Where are they suppose to come from? So if you have zero what does it say about your phage culture?

What is the difference between Hard and soft agar? I don't know your protocol, but try to think what would have happened if you had followed the other way round (did yo make "pour plates", in this case think how bacteria would grow in hard vs soft agar. If you first spread the bacteria, try imagining spreading on soft agar...)
