I need your help guys!! Tell me how I did on my Bio test->

Postby kid5er » Fri Sep 29, 2006 10:31 pm

Whats up, I had my first bio test of the semster, and im freakin out!! im afraid that i got

a lot of the questions wrong..mainly because their was stuff on the test which the

professor didnt lecture on! I am going to type up the questions i wasnt sure about and I want to see how you guys answer

the questions..I wont get the results back until monday and i cant wait that long, so here

we go!

These are the questions which im not sure about:

1.Which of the following is at the highest levels of organization in the context of the study of biology

A.)cell biology B.)genetics C.)ecology D.)anatomy E.)physiology

2.In a phylogenetic tree which of the following would be most closely related to a frog?
A.)human B.)cat C.)lizard D.)bacteria E.)clam

3.Which of the following elements' isotopic ratios are used to make absolute determinations of the time of formation of materials?
A.)Oxygen B.)hydrogen C.)carbon D.)nitrogen E.)radon

4.Life is thought to have evolved from complex molecules formed by the interaction of smaller molecules in oceans and the atmosphere. The substance which brought these molecules together to interact is
A.)hydrogen B.)acids C.)water D.)buffers E.)salt

5.Which of the following is not a property of carbon.
A.)It can form single, double, and even trible bonds with itself.
B.)It can be built into rings and long chains.
C.)It constitutes the backbones of an incredible variety of molecules
D.)All compounds made from carbon are soluble in water.
E.)All organic molecules contain carbon atoms.

6.The simplest and most common monosaccharide is a six-carbon sugar called
A.)galactose B.)lactose C.)cellulose D.)glucose E.)sucrose

7.Proteins possess all of the following functions except
A.)structure B.)metabolism C.)encode genetic information D.)membrane transport E.)cell recognition

8. Alpha helix and beta pleated sheets are examples of which level of protein structure?
A.)zero order B.)primary C.)secondary D.)tertiary E.)quaternary

9.The characteristics of life inclue all of the following except

A.)complexity B.)death C.)multicellularity D.)sensitivity E.)inheritance

10.The kingdom not containing eukaryotes is
A.)archaebacteria B.)fungi A????

Thanks ! I really really appreciate your help :D

Some of my answer is different :)

Btw, what's this: "alpha helix and beta pleated sheets" ???
If Victor reads it, he will laugh out loud!  :P

That is correct ^^^

Tertiary structure is when the alpha helix folds and forms the specific shape with covalent, ionic and hydrogen bonds

Yup...the answer for no.8 is C...secondary structure. While tertiary structure are actions of folding here and there because of many non-boundary forces like hydrophobic interactions, VDW forcecs, certain hydrogen bonding....

Alpha helix is a kinda spiral helix structure formed by hydrogen bonding which is done by the 1st amino acid and the 4th amino acid, then is continued by the 8th amino acid and so on....thus make the entire structure become helix like you can see in most of the biology books now...
Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
