Is it correct to say that viens carry blood with high concentrations of waste products and arteries carry blood with high concentrations of nutrients, and why?

yes generally it is correct. because arteries carry nutrients to the tissues and veins take waste products.

Yes but there are exceptions... like the renal vein...

Wouldn't it be opposite in the pulmonary circuit?

The pulmonary circuit is different... It's role is simply getting oxygen to the heart... My opinion is that you can not talk about this issue there

I think the point is that what do we mean by saying 'waste products'. I mean is CO2 considered as a waste product or are things like urea considered as waste.

The question asks what do veins and arteries carry. The pulmonary artery carries CO2 and the pulmonary vein carries the O2.

I just don't see how we are excluding the pulmonary circuit as it has veins and arteries.

We are talking about waste products meaning CO2, right?

CO2 is not the only waste product. Urea is also waste.
