BooksI'm a High School senior in AP Biology, we finished our unit on molecular and microbiology, and not only was I intrigued by both subjects, I understood both very well. I'm going to PSU starting fall semester as a Microbiology major. But I'm impatient.
I want to get a jumpstart on my education and career, partly because I want to make college life easier on myself, but mostly because it's so interesting to me. So I'm asking if any of you want to recomend any books that I can read on Microbiology. I bought a text book last week "Microbiology" by Robert W. Bauman. I love the book, I'm about 150 pages in (most of it is easy review). They take SEM's and TEM's of the structure they are decribing, and animate them, so half is a realistic colored version, with fine lines, and the other is the actual TEM or SEM (sometimes LM). But any suggestions that will be kind of a "step up" after I finish this text book would be helpful, whether it is a text book or not. If you want to list accessory books that aren't quite related to Microbiology, but would help with my understanding of it, feel free to do so. Thanks! Greg
MIcrobiology : An Introduction by Tortora, Funke, and Case is a very good college-level introduction to Microbiology. It has several chapters (20) and the latter part of the book deals with the interactions between microbes and hosts which is very interesting. Hope this helps. The ISBN # is : 0-8053-7753-0
