HELP! Need answer from genetics 101:

It has been a few years since college and i need someone to tell me if I am correct in remembering how eye color is determined in children. Here's the situation. Is it possible for a caucasion woman, hazel eyes and a black male, brown eyes to produce a caucasion child with blue eyes. The black male's parents are both black.
Is it possible for a black male to carry a blue eye gene?
This involves a custody case possibly?

Yes it is possible. I took genetics last year so i'm not such a great genetician but here it is how i remember it. Coloration of the eyes is determined by 3 genes. In hair, it's 5 genes. In the skin color there are many genes that are codominant. They are on the same chromosome. It is possible for a black man to carry a blue eyed gene but since it is recesive and the dominant gene influences the secretion of melanine it will never by homozygoths. So, it is possible to carry the gene but not to have blue eyes.
I'm not 100% sure though..

I think so. And also think that the percentage of black-white marriages are less then black-black or white-white marriages. Am I wrong?

To answer your question with a bit of certainty, yes its plausible for an African American male to carry the blue eye trait. Actually, all babies are born blue eyed if you didn't know..... It would only take a recessive trait from the black male and depending on the mother’s traits to create a different eye color. If the mother has a dad with blue eyes it is highly plausible and vice versa if the father gives a recessive. But what are the odds of getting blue, green, hazel eyes? Slim. The odds of this happening are in the millions, you could categorized this with albinism. If you really want to find out the truth, check the family background of eye color. Two recessive traits can/ could create anything
