Body's electrical current

It is simple. You have a highly negative charge in your body. This create a potential difference between you and your talkie. You are probably wearing shoes with a sole of a low dielectric constant, thus creating a circuit from you to the ground. In essense your body is acting like a proton collector. The solution is to purchase a shoe with a sole of higher dielectric constant. Might I suggest a good pair of Ferragamo's.

Thank you MichaelXY, I will buy my self a pair and see if it works. Buying the battreies is bad enough, but trying to call in my count number can be HE-Double-Q-Sticks. Not only that , but would be nice to be able to call for help, if one of my young ladies decides to beat the stuffings out of another one. I work with youth who are sent by the court to "think again". I have never been attacked, but at the age of 57, I am called grandma, and I think that puts me off limits.

Firstly, being techie...I ALWAYS ground myself or attempt to when I'm working with electrical things. And I think the things that are most frustrating to myself and ALL that are here is that we're telling you something is not right with our bodies. Point blank. We're touching things and things are happening..it's that simple. Why it has to be that it's our clothing or shoes or carpet (and might I add, I AM very into science and my first thoughts are to check the easiest thing first..same way computers work in fact) is beyond me. I know certain fabric tend to store and conduct electricity (Nylon is one). I know that wearing rubber shoes is supposed to ground you and when working with or touching electrical items you should wear things like cotton and no jewelry.

What I'm telling you is, this happens..sometimes just stepping out of the bathtub walking on a tiled floor with a cotton towel. There is no rhyme or reason other than it just happens and I and I'm guessing others here don't know why.

To tell people to visit paranormal sites (and I've always hated that term because in 1818 if we'd told people they would be able to talk on a wireless device to someone half way around the world they'd have though it was paranormal..I think most things that are out of the ordinary isn't paranormal, it's science we haven't yet learned to understand) how about we not deem all of us as a bunch crazy hick wierdos and try to think of a way to test these things. Now mind you it's not life threatening so of course there is no rush to get it done. BUT really, if doctors took the stance of not believing a patient was sick, just because he or she didn't know how to prove it at the time, half of us would be dead by now just from plain ignorance.

As for my house, I have moved a LOT in the course of life..and again, it happens everywhere I go. I can't blame my shoes because I have tons of shoes and my feet have grown and changed over the years and it happens no matter WHAT shoes I'm wearing. The only difference between it happening now and when I'm a little girl is I can feel it now and am learning not to touch things at that moment. And trust me I live with the biggest sceptic in the world and even he had to conceed that something was not right when he watched me blew the diningroom light, walk five feet, blow the den light and then the one in the bathroom, cotton clothes, no jewelry, tiled floor and no I had not just brushed my hair or anything of the sort. If he can say..something is not right with you, don't touch any more light blubs when you're feeling like this..so can some of you..instead of alluding to us all being crazy..or malnourshed or over nourished.

As far as the rest of you are concerned, YOU'RE FREAKS. No, just kidding. The majority of the things you're mentioning can be explained by static electricity. The insulation in your house, the types of clothes you wear, the types of shoes you wear, your carpet and furniture, the electrical wiring of your house, can all influence the static charge of electricity around your body.
This electricity isn't coming from nowhere.
It's possible that iron content and pH in your body are slightly skewed, adding to the effect as well. Does the geology of your area have high concentrations of iron, copper, or other conductive metals?
Electromagnetic fields of everything you touch will alter your static charge.

I'd suggest a couple of simple things
a) having the wiring of your house checked
b) using a different fabric softener
c) wearing some shoes that will allow some transference of charge.

Other than that, I'd suggest taking a close look at your daily life, and what surfaces your body is coming in contact with (primarily your bed, furniture, and clothing).

I know this thread is a few months old, but I was just researching it myself. A few days ago I killed yet another computer. I have never blown light bulbs but I have come to find that radios actually get a better connection when I touch the antenna, and so does the tv, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. But recently a straightener exploded in my hand, another one stopped working in my hand, multiple iPods die in my hands, I've crashed about 6 or 7 computers just by using them, they don't really have other problems. Sometimes if I walk by the television it turns itself on, and I can turn lights on and off without using the switch. This has been happening for about 6 years now that I can remember at least, but my mom told me when I was a baby I enjoyed playing with batteries more than I did with the actual toys. Also my mom has been talking about how she thinks I have something wrong with my magnetic field, if anybody has anything to add, please help! But it was good reading this to find that I'm not alone, or crazy, and that it actually is possible.

Lightning Bolts within Cells

A new nanoscale tool reveals strong electric fields inside cells.

Using novel voltage-sensitive nanoparticles, researchers have found electric fields inside cells as strong as those produced in lightning bolts. Previously, it has only been possible to measure electric fields across cell membranes, not within the main bulk of cells. It's not clear what causes these strong fields or what they might mean. But now that it's possible to measure them, researchers hope to learn about disease states such as cancer by studying these electric fields.

University of Michigan researchers led by chemistry professor Raoul Kopelman encapsulated voltage-sensitive dyes in polymer spheres just 30 nanometers in diameter. When illuminated with blue light, the voltage-sensitive dyes emit a mixture of red and green light; the exact frequency of light emitted is influenced by the strength of local electric fields, allowing the researchers to measure those fields. Testing these nanoparticles in the internal fluid of brain-cancer cells, Kopelman found electric fields as strong as 15 million volts per meter, perhaps five times stronger than the field found in a lightning bolt.

Not only must the current be pretty small, but the field strength quoted is 15 million volts per meter. Now the voltage drop across a membrane is 150 mV or so. If the membrane is roughly 50 nm, that gives a field strength of 3 million volts per meter. You only need to go up to 0.75 V across the same 50 nm membrane to reach 15 million volts per meter. So you don’t need a tremedous change in voltage to get a large change in field strength. What Kopelman’s group does is interesting; I’m not dissing his nanotechnology. He himself may like to bandy about this “stronger than a bolt of lightning” kind of phrasing because it is eye-catching and would seem to relate to something of enormous power that we are all familiar with. The real utility in Kopelman’s research, in my opinion, is the devices he designs, not the colorful language he or the press may use concerning their uses or observations.

The article made it sound like this was a surprising result, that nobody had any reason to anticipate such large electric fields.

Great link. Well this doesnt have anything to do with sending my IPhone through the wash. There was a period when i was really in emotional flux and found that i was really off. I had this sales job that was all telephone. I wasnt happy with where I was sitting, and lo and behold my phone just quit working. They sent in the phone guys and they couldnt figure it out. So I physically had to move out of that cube. I am a believer. I think we dont put enough emphasis on how much electrical we really are. My grandmother was really sensitive to this, literally saying she felt like an electrical current was going through her.
I find I do things that lessen this;running;meditation;yoga.
I really should quit my coffee intake. LOL.
