I beg to differ. I have another example that will put your theory down for good. Humans weren't around at the start of the earth yet we are the most dominant of all the species. Going by that, me being, as you would put it, a late comer doesn't rule me out of winning this. Without science there is nothing.

Re: Re:
That is an arrogant and poorly informed point of view. The most dominant group on earth are bacteria. I would not know which species would be dominant, or how you would even decide that, but sheer number, diversity of colonized environment and survival ability are all dominated by bacteria (they can even grow in nuclear plant, in the water around the core). Tehy were here from the beginning, not always visible, but always there. and probably still there long after the humans. I feel I could be one Patrick

I should have written "I wish" rather than "I feel". Another advantage with bacteria: sex and reproduction are not linked, so no need to be careful Patrick

Hey, I was going to make the point about bacteria being dominant!
Anyway, I'll add that if humanity went extinct, no other species would be affected (except perhaps for a handful of specialized parasites), and in fact many species would thrive if we vanished. However, if bacteria go extinct, so does everything else. How's that for dominance? Evidence suggests otherwise.

Not as much as you think.

What gave you the hint?
