More than sugar, this is about sweeteners. All sweeteners are no sugar (some are alcohols) and all sugar do not sweeten (starch for example).

I thought that sweeteners is sugar and other stuff... However, how can alcohol sweeten stuff?

Other stuff like peptides and alcohols...
Alcohols being a class of chemicals, I am indeed not refering to ethanol. But sorbitol is an alcohol, and a good sweetener.
