Need help with this one. What is it?My dad and I were on vacation in Wisconsin when we came across this apparently dead life form.
We were on the banks of a freshwater river (forgive me, I don't know the name of the river). The pics aren't that good, they were taking in 1984. We've always wondered what the heck this thing is. The insides were a clear membrane while the outside was a tougher almost scaly rind. It did not smell, so I'm guessing it died recently.

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop.
Its a cluster of frog eggs in the early stages. It looks like one animal, but in reality its a group of them. I have seen them around fresh water lakes on several ocassions.

Oh wait, I take that back. I did some more research and found that it might be Bryozoa Phylactolaemata. These pics match it almost perfectly:
