Pop-Sci books covering the state of biology?

Postby edegro » Mon Jun 15, 2009 5:33 pm

I've read a lot of the popular science books on physics. Books like A Brief History of Time, The Emporer's New Mind, The Road to Reality, The Elegant Universe, etc. I'm looking look for equivalent reads in the realm of biology. Books that cover the current state of biology as a field, where it came from and where it's going, for the educated non-biologist. My searches so far have only turned up books on specific sub-plots. I'd like to get a grasp of the big picture first. Thanks!
