Alcohol and Genetics

DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) contains genetic instructions it is like a blueprint fro every part and function of the body (DNA). Genes are found that contribute to people becoming alcoholics. These genes are GABA and GABRG3 (gene for alcoholism) . DNA screenings find these genes associated with alcohol consumption. Unfortunately genetics are only 30-50% of the factors but using demographic characteristics such as 1) child/adolescent alcohol use 2) biological risk 4) behavior 5) family environment they can accurately predict if a person is likely to become addicted to alcohol (John r Kramer). there is also a gene called DRD2 if it could be removed people would no longer feel the high from doing drugs and drinking alcohol.
