can a school boy do some genetic experiment?can a school boy do some genetic experiment? with simple tools.
anyone has a good idea?
Re: can a school boy do some genetic experiment?I have one relatively easy suggestion. You could do some simple observational tests to find out some gene alleles (variations of genes) you and your family share. Look up human mendelian traits that are physical features (like cleft chins, earlobe attachment, etc.), and see what features you do and do not share with family members, these show alleles you do or do not share. If your doing some sort of report or coursework it's always impressive to have a family tree demonstrating alleles passing through the generations of a family.
The question is fairly vague. There are many different types of genetics experiments. I know of one in which you can extract DNA in a kitchen that's not too hard.
http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/ ... ion/howto/ It's not sequencing, but it's genetics. I did this in my genetics class a while back and enjoyed it. Maybe it will do the same for you. _______________________________________________
