I had no idea, but according to the dictionary: "any alteration of genetic material, as in agriculture, to make them capable of producing new substances or performing new functions; also called genetic engineering, genetic manipulation, recombinant DNA technology."

does that help?

I don't know what dictionary you got that from, but not ours. Here is what our dictionary says: "The process by which introns are removed from hnRNA to produce mature messenger RNA that contains only exons. Alternative splicing seems to occur in many proteins and by alternative exon usage a set of related proteins can be generated from one gene, often in a tissue or developmental stage specific manner"

The Wikipedia entry provides a lot of info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RNA_splicing

Thanks! I'm trying to study for this science middle school test for teachers. I haven't had a science class in years, so there are lots of the things I'm re-learning.

Are there any other good science websites where I could go and type questions or terms? I like this site and I've used Wikipedia.
