Characterization of Staphylococcus at the genus and species

Postby wesida on Wed Apr 23, 2008 3:41 pm

Hello, What are some other tests to characterize Staph at the genus levels other than (gram stain, Catalase test)
and also how about differentiating in the species level?

Thanks

You can id S. aureus by coagulase test - it's positive while other Staph are negative. To id other staph you can do various biochem tests but those are not as simple.
