Island natural selection

Postby casual_ecstasy on Mon Nov 19, 2007 11:06 pm

Hi! I'm doing A level Biology, really interested in selection and evolution, but I'm having problems with this question:

"It is frequently found that individuals within populations of small mammals, such as mice or voles, which live on islands are larger than those living on mainland; while those of large mammals, such as elephants and bears, tend to be smaller than those on the mainland. Suggest reasons for this."

Any ideas?
