Cat Ovary Maturing Follicle Microscope Picture

Postby TerrorByte » Thu Oct 25, 2007 10:40 pm

Okay, so I have to label a picture of a Maturing Follicle in a cat ovary.

I need atleast five labels, and I also have a few questions to ask.

First, I can identify the ovum itself, the cytoplasm of the ovum, and the Zona Pellucida in the picture. That makes three. I cannot seem to find two more things to identify, and I've had difficulty in finding resources on the matter...

Here is my picture: http://www.freewebtown.com/adeel/catovary.bmp

It doesn't have a nucleus or nucleolus visible, so I can't label those of course. I also can't label the close by primordial egg cells, since they're not part of the maturing follicle. Of course I can't label the follicle itself. Any suggestions? (What is the actual membrane of maturing follicle called? That could be a label.

Another question. When that egg is fertilized by the sperm that come, what determines which sperm is able to fertilize the egg, instead of the other ones...?

Thank you guys

Okay I've updated the picture with labels here:

Are my current labels correct? I still need one more. :(
